Jim's Story

Life I Graduated from St. Martin's College with a degree in civil engineering and married Jeanette (Jet) on 7-1-72. She was born and raised on the island of Kauai and came to St. Martin's College, where she was a cheerleader. She received her Masters in Ed. from the U. of Portland and her Principals Credentials from Central WA Univ. I retired as the General Manager of the Port of Willapa Harbor and Marine Terminals Mgr. at the Port of Grays Harbor in Sept. '05. Jet is retired from the Willapa Valley School Dist., where she was an Elementary Teacher & Principal. Son, Bryce (8-4-75) graduated from the U. of Portland and is an EMT/Firefighter in Tucson. Daughter, Janelle (11-21-79) graduated from U. of Portland and received her Masters Degree from St. Andrews University in Scotland. She is the University Relations Manager at NIKE headquarters in Beaverton, OR. and was married on 6/9/07 to K...Expand for more
arl Aaker. After retiring, I worked part-time for an engineering firm, located in Edmonds. Most of my work was in New Orleans, where I performed structural assessments on damaged buildings and separated wind damage from flood damage. Jet often accompanied me on my trips to N.O., which were usually for 2-3 weeks at a time. In Nov. '06 I accepted the position of Manager at the Port of Ilwaco, since retirement was driving me nuts. We already had a four-bedroom house in Ocean Park, so we did not really have to move, per se. We have kept our home in Menlo, which we visit about every other weekend. We are really enjoying our new life on the Long Beach Peninsula. We have made a lot of new friends and are very active in the community, as we were in the Raymond area. We plan to keep both homes, once I finally retire for good, unless I can talk Jet into selling the Menlo home and buying a place in Hawaii.
