After HS I joined the Air Force along with George Samples. Played football for six months of a year and was one of the first sixteen airmen in the AF to be trained in a new discipline (computers) for the other six months. Stationed in Albuquerque NM and then at Eglin AFB in Florida. After the military, I went to work at Boeing and handled all their secret computer work,
Quit Boeing to go to school to become a teacher. Played football at Everett CC as the oldest college freshman in the nation at the time (29 years old). Graduated from the UW in three years while working full-time for most of it and still playing football. Taught English, Creative Writing, History, etc for thirty-seven years. I was forty resulting in broken arms(both), legs (both), shoulder (left), hand (right), foot (left), ribs (four-right), nose (3 times), and I had over 20 concussions in 25 years of playing football which resulted in hydrocephalus leading to brain surgery and a shunt in my head draining excess fluid into my abdominal cavity. If you didn't know, you would never know...can't see it. My first wife died after 21 years of marriage, and I remarried later. Lynda and I have been married for 23 years. Our children total four and our grandchildren number five. In 2002 I came close to dying from MRSA (38 days in the hospital), and in 2008, I had that brain surgery My life has been atypical, and it has been both awesome and not so good. The awesome I have welcomed and the not so good I've worked past, and in doing so, it has made me stronger. So, listen Karma, I'm strong enough already. You can leave me alone now.
