Jim's Story

Life I attended DHS only from 1962-1964 but for the most part I enjoyed my tenure. I can't say I appreciated my performance in Mr. Swan's advanced algebra class, but I did manage to get through it. After high school, I went to Illinois State and graduated in 1968 with a B.A. degree. Upon leaving college, the Vietnam War was at its height and although I had been accepted at the University of Virgina for a combined Master/Doctoral program, my prospects of ever getting there before being drafted were not good. As it turned out, I accepted an offer from my alma matter, DHS, to teach in Dixon. I did this for two years, and then moved on to Crystal Lake, IL. I taught in district #155 for the next 31 years and became the History Department Chairman for Crystal Lake South High School, a position I held for 15 years. I also coached softball, soccer, debate and speech team. Meanwhile, I received an M.A. in History from Northern Illinois University. While still teaching during the day, I took the train to Chicago every night beginning in 1978 and attended...Expand for more
John Marshall Law School. I graduated right on time in 1982 and succesfully completed the bar exam. I have been a member of the bar since 1982. I continued to teach and practice law on the side since that time. In 2001, I retired from teaching and took a year to travel. I went to Spain, Italy, Greece, Hungary, Germany, Austria, etc. Along the way, I married my wife, Vicky, and had two children, Amanda and Katherine. I am now a proud grandparent. Finally, I now practice law full time with a firm in Mount Prospect. My primary area of concentration is real estate law. It's a field I enjoy and it's a great supplement to my teaching pension. It allows me to travel and do the types of things I like to do. I just returned from a couple weeks in Hawaii and have my sights set on another destination soon. I would enjoy hearing from my former classmates. I would say that I will be at our upcoming class reunion, but i'm not sure. The last DHS reunion was fine, but it was attended by alot of old people(LOL). Best wishes to all for their happiness!
