Jimmie's Story
Jimmie A. Kepler has worked as a US Army officer, minister, freelance writer, corporate trainer, and in the information technology field.
PAST
Kepler grew up in a career United States Air Force (USAF) family. Upon his father's retirement from the USAF he moved to DeSoto, Texas graduating from DeSoto High School in 1971. He won the draft lottery that year with a draft number of 25.
He completed his bachelor's degree at the University of Texas at Arlington in 1975. Kepler was commissioned a Second Lieutenant, Infantry, United States Army upon graduation. He was selected for active duty.
Kepler graduated from the Infantry Officer Basic Course, Platoon Leader Maintenance Management Course, and Airborne School at Fort Benning, Georgia. His next assignment was Fort Lewis, Washington. He served as a Rifle Platoon Leader, Weapons Platoon Leader, Infantry Battalion Maintenance Officer, and Maintenance Platoon Leader.
He came off active duty in December 1978 and was honorably discharged in 1982 from the US Army Reserves at the rank of Captain. In June 1977 Jimmie Kepler was named an Outstanding Junior Officer of the Ninth Infantry Division.
Following his military service he attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas earning a Master of Religious Education degree in 1980 (Master of Arts 1983).
Kepler worked for the next 16 years in Christian Education. He served churches in Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas. He started freelance writing during this period. He earned a Doctor of Education degree in Educational Administration degree in 1987 from Pacific Western University.
Since leaving full time church work Kepler has worked as a Vendor Management Specialist overseeing 42 day care centers for East Texas Support Services, Senior Training Specialist for ATC Communication training computer systems for American Express, for Hilton Hotels as Internet Coordinator supporting their web site, and Interstate Batteries.
He has also attended Collin County Community College in Frisco, Texas studying computer network technology software/hardware and visual basic programming. He was selected to Phi Theta Kappa for academic excellence.

ceived multiple honors. He was selected as an Outstanding Junior Officer in the Ninth Infantry Division in 1977, Outstanding Young Man of America in 1982, Who's Who in Religion in 1985, Who's Who in American Education in 1987, Who's Who in the South and Southwest in 1990, Who's Who in America in 1992, and Interstate Batteries Employee of the year in 2001.
Kepler is a CompTIA A+, i-Net+ and Network+ Certified Computer Professional. He also holds a General Class FCC Amateur Radio License.
PRESENT
Jimmie Kepler works for Interstate Batteries at their corporate headquarters in Dallas, Texas as Night Systems Administrator. He supports the Interstate Batteries Enterprise. He is responsible for implementing, monitoring and reporting on all Information Technology Group systems, processes, and procedures that occur during the evening/ overnight hours. This involves all batch processes and critical system functions, system backups and archives, and automated software updates to servers and workstations. He assists in the preparation of end-user documentation for updated software and patches. He is responsible for the Systems Management Server package builds and deployments, new user account setups and setting of permissions for user accounts and file shares. He troubleshoots second level support issues, as well as build, install and configure new servers.
Kepler describes himself as a writer. Working as a Systems Administrator for Interstate Batteries at their corporate headquarters in Dallas, Texas supports his reading and writing habit. Over a dozen magazines and trade journals have published and paid him for his writing. A big thrill for him has been getting three cover articles over the years.
