Jimmy's Story
After graduation from Tulia High School, I attended West Texas State University as a Music Education major, graduating with a Bachelor of Music Education degree in 1971. I was also commissioned as a secon Lieutenant in the Army Reaerve, and spent the next 14 years in the capacity of a reserve officer, discharged at the rank of Captain in 1985. I received my Master of Arts degree from WT in 1974.
I retired from teaching high school band in 2001 after a 29-year career. It started in 1972 at Levelland Jr. High. I married my high school sweetheart, Frances Neil, in 1973. 4 years at Levelland Jr High, then 7 years at Levelland High School as Director of Bands. Our 2 daughters, Ruth and Emily, were born in Levelland. We moved to Amarillo in 1983, and I served as ...Expand for more
Director of Bands at River Road High School for the next 18 years until my retirement. During that tenure, I was elected by my colleagues to the office of regional Band Division Chair for 4 years and Region 1 president for Texas Music Educators Association for the 4 years just prior to my retirement. The final concert I conducted at River Road was appropriately titled, "Mr. Hutson's Opus."
Upon retirement from teaching I decided the rocking chair was NOT for me, so I founded The Jim Hutson Agency in 2001. I now lead a quality team of financial professionals, dedicated to helping our clients build and preserve wealth through safe money investments and low-cost insurance products and strategies.
