Jimmy's Story

A native of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Jim Johnson won his first national art award in the fifth grade at Jones School. Now he is a retired Art Director living in Little Rock. He worked at Hallmark Cards in the late 50s as one of the first writers and designers of the popular, humorous Contemporary Cards. He co-founded Cranford/Johnson Advertising in 1961 and served as Senior Vice President Creative until his retirement in 1998. He has won many national graphic design awards and was recently named a Distinguished Alumnus at the University of Arkansas Fulbright College Department of Art. uying market and is now represented by the Red Door Gallery in North Little Rock, The Heights Gallery in Little Rock. His art ranges from imaginative landscapes to whimsical figurative subjects. His work may be seen at yessy.com/jimjohnson/gallery.aspx His work is in many private collections in Little Rock, Hot Springs Arkansas, Washington DC, Sao Paulo Brazil, Memphis, Boulder, Colorado and Westport, Connecticut. He is also included in The Arkansas Center on Aging Collection and The Clinton Library Thea Collection. In 1987, he was a member of the Arkansas Mt Everest Expedition in Tibet. Jim still plays guitar in a popular Rock band , "The Rockets." Voted best band in Arkansas thirteen years in a row.
