JoAnn's Story
After graduating from Shaker in 1965 I spent the next four years growing up at New Paltz earning my BA in Education. My first position was in Ballston Lake, NY teaching 3 rd grade, being a Cadet GS leader with another NP teacher, skiing and planning my wedding. My husband, Dane, and I married in 1970 and moved to New Paltz and Kingston where I taught 2 nd grade for the next two years. The arrival of our son came in 1972 and my career was on hold for awhile. Lesli and Stacy followed a few years later. During this time we lived in Dutchess County, built our first house and moved to Raleigh, NC. Built our second home there and remained in it for 5 years. Armonk And White Plains and I finished my Masters and taught 3 rd grade in the Wappingers Central School District. 17 years in the classroom, and ready for a change, I was offered a position as a Technology Integration Teacher working for our Ass't Superintendent. I trained teachers and students in use of Mobile Apple Laptop labs. During this time I attended MCLA for Administrative courses, but as grandchildren started to arrive I knew I wanted to be with them and my husband who had retired earlier, so I retired in 2009 and began helping my children with their's. Joys of my life. We have plenty of time to travel and have a group of people that we travel with. Live to travel! Try to learn the languages, but not great at that! I can order wine in 4 different language gets, though!!
