Joan's Story

After graduating from OHHS I studied Speech Pathology and Elementary Education at Western Michigan University. Oddly enough, upon graduation I returned to Grand Rapids and enjoyed my first teaching experience at Ottawa Hills Elementary. How strange to be there as a Speech Therapist and run into my former teachers from elementary school! For those of you who went to grade school at Ottawa---I went to see Miss Kryder (my kgn. teacher), and the huge fishpond in the middle of the room had shrunk considerably! I married and had two daughters, Laura and Lynda. We all live in the Orlando, FL area and enjoy lots of good times together with our families. My granddaughter, Amy,...Expand for more
also became a Speech Therapist and recently completed her Masters and got married. These young ones grow up way too fast. Update: I am now a great-grandma. Amy and her husband, Josh, have added a little boy (Sammy) and a little girl (Hadley) to our family. They live here in the area so I get a lot of "Sammy and Hadley time". I am single, as my husband passed ten years ago. I do keep very busy with friends, family and my menangerie of pets. We enjoy traveling, and I am still working part time as I really enjoy it and am not quite ready to retire. I have been a financial planning and insurance consultant for 26 years and have a large client base to keep me busy!

A Spectacular Happy National Dog Day to our very special Dash. Love this little guy!
My Callie surprised me by ending up in the upstairs bedroom of the dollhouse that Len and Gloria put together many years before. I do need to straighten up her room now!
My Callie is venturing outside on the porch and Bogie , our next door kitty, came over to make friends. It is so neat to watch them size each other up. They just stretched out on opposite sides of the screen until Bogie had
Callie is loving the back porch now that the weather is cooler. She either lounges by the pool or on her kitty condo. Such a rough life!!!
My Callie apparently wants to be a Christmas tree ornament. Somehow she manages to get into the middle of the tree, lay down, look cute, and never disturb one ornament. Love her!🌲
I just came across this wonderful advice in a folder marked “Wisdom”, and thought I should share with my Facebook friends. Enjoy!
Callie and our new addition, Stardust (Dusty), are getting to know each other!

We just came home from our family celebration of my great grandson’s 9th birthday. It was wonderful to see the little ones and we had lots of fun, but it is hard beyond words to not be able to hug them. This social distanci
We just enjoyed breakfast on the Verdery porch. It doesn’t matter that it was a late lunch. It’s amazing how much better food tastes out here! So much to be thankful for. I really miss our family get- together, but it is
I’m posting a picture of my mom and dad which was taken about 45 years ago. I miss them dearly and would give anything to sit down with them and just really enjoy sharing. They left for their journey to heaven, sixteen hour
