Joan's Story

Life I am so old that as a 3 year old when my father was stationed in England we traveled there by boat and the trip lasted 7 days! Airplanes were not an option in those days. I spent 1st-6th grade in Ohio. My first bestfriend was Dixie Lee Powell who grew up to be 5'10" tall while I topped 6'2" which is called "ultra tall" when you are a woman. 7th grade found me 20 miles south of Miami. Then off to Guam, my island paradise. I lived in a quanset hut by the ocean and loved it. Next stop was Panama City Fl. My dad turned down a tour in Holland so I could graduate from High School a choice that doomed me to staying stateside and attending Bridgwater State Teachers College in Mass. Only lasted one year as I met the most wonderful man who became my husband. He drove a Harley Davison Motorcycle, owned a 34 coup and 41 ford truck and did not smoke or drink. Great guy! He was in the Air Force like my dad. On to Duluth MN where I became a stay at home mother of three babies in 2 1/2 years! Then Eagle River Alaska where I became a stay at home mother who home schooled her kids(not real popular in the 1970's) and had another baby. Got converted here and started an extrordinary life as a Christian How exciting to have a God that takes a personal interest in me. Back in the lower 48 I found myself in the UP (Upper Pensuliar of Michigan)looking and living like something out of Mother Earth. Next st...Expand for more
op Oliverhurt Calif where I put the kids in an expermental agricultural based Christian school for 1st-8th graders. For a cultural shocking experience I next went to Landstuhl Germany and lived in a stairwell apartment on the second floor. Instead of gardens and woods I was treated to barbwire fences and gun carrying guards to protect us from terrorists. A quick stay in Mass. then on to Bangor Maine a town that claims they are the end of the road for the Greyhound bus line. Moved to the mountains of Tenn to retire and became a grandmother who works out of her home and babysits her grandkids. My hair is turning grey and gravity is taking over at an alarming rate but I am happy. I love my husband, children and 9 grandchildren. My children survived my homeschooling efforts as the three oldest graduated from college with above average to high honors and the youngest is still in college doing well. The three girls are all nurses and the boy is a small business owner with an excellent reputation. Good kids. At 62 I really have not done anything special with my life, I worry about my friends and family knowing some of their choices put them at risk but other than warn them and love them I have learned that sometimes experience is the best teacher . I keep the Bible Sabbath, sundown Friday until sundown Saturday and look forward to Jesus' soon return. Being a Senior Citizen is not so bad after all.
