Joan's Story
Life
After school, I married, moved to Oceanside, Ca., worked on the Marine Corp Base, came home & had 3 boys. I worked 18 years at Gulf Oil, until they merged with Chevron. After a few marriages, I ended up with 6 boys. In 1981 I lost my #4 son and in 2000 I lost my eldest. After Gulf Oil, I worked for 2 little independent oil companies & then retired. I love retirement. My life hasn't been an easy one, but I am enjoying my later years now. I have 2 sons who live close by, so I am not alone. I have 3 grandsons and 1 granddaughter; however, she lives in Germany with her mother. Her father (and my #3 son) works in Baghdad, Iraq. I have made many friends in my life, but I treasure those friends from my school days most of all. I have COPD and don't venture out too much. I use an inhaler; otherwise, I am ok. that the years of smoking helped to cause this ailment, but it has been over 11 years since I smoked. My life is filled with my sons and their wives and my grandsons.
Since I last wrote, my son is home from Iraq and working here for KBR. I am pretty much a stay-at-home person. I have a beautiful garden of veggies and some fruits. Life goes on. My youngest son has a number of ailments and can no longer do strenuous work. I am happy though with my life and it's still quite exciting just living from day to day. I am looking forward to our 55th reunion this year.
The 60th reunion was great. It was so good go see my "old" friends, but I missed some that were no longer with us. Life goes on for me. I am single (and loving it). I have 4 sons, 3 grandsons, 2 great grandsons and a great granddaughter that take up much of my time.
