Joan's Story
After high school I attended Dobbins a two year commercial art school. After graduating I worked as a graphic designer in publishing. In the evening I attended the Philadelphia College of Art. One evening we had a substitute teacher who was an art director from New York City. He said, If you want to make it in art you need to move to New York and the best school is The School of Visual Arts.
Four months later, to the surprise of my family and friends I moved to the New York City and started SVA 1974. I finished my BFA and worked in several art studios. I continued to paint. An agent sold my paintings and I had a show in the East village where I live. A ...Expand for more
musician friend suggested I apply for my art teaching license so I could substitute teach between free-lance jobs. While subbing I realized I love helping students with disabilities. I studied special education and received a Masters Degree. I teach art to special education students in a New York City public school.I started writing poetry in my teens. I am a published poet and have appeared on Manhattan Cable TV. My poetry can be read on Helium.com. My paintings are on.joanreese.boundlessgallery. or youtube. I am single and spend my summer traveling to interesting places.I am planning the next chapter of my life. Hoping it's in a warm place with friends.
