Joan's Story
I don't know if people knew that I took care of my mother who had cancer from a very early age. I couldn't really relate well with most of the people my age and generated towards Adults more. I believe the most fun in school that I had was in the 6th,7th and 8th grades. A small group of very nice girls . Fond memories there !
My mother passed away in April of my freshman year at Eastern. I graduated in 3 years instead of 4. So some of my classes were with people I really didn't know.
After high school I worked in Philly at Strawbridge and Clothier. Couldn't stand being cooped up on the 8th and 11th floors all day. I soon found myself working with race horses for about a decade. Loved it till I needed to come home ...Expand for more
to care for my brother and my father. My father died just short of ten years after my mother.
Decided to go to cosmetology school and become a beautician. Met a wonderful guy named Mark , married and had two wonderful children. Decided to be a stay at home mom till kids went to school then off to nursing school I went. Became a registered nurse . I have worked in the area of maternity and Women's and children's Services and really enjoy my work. Love working with new and 'soon to be' parents. I work for Kennedy Hospital in Washington Township , NJ. I feel blessed to have a wonderful family, great job and really good people around me . I now am helping my friend's children with their children ! EEKS time flys.... :)
