Joan (Ana)'s Story

Life I live in Los Angeles, California (since 1989). I'm unmarried ... no children. My work is my life, well, HAS been my life. I am learning to appreciate the world outside of the editing suite. Though politics has always been very important to me, these days my strongest passions revolve around the arts: music, film, art, and most recently, photography. I regularly post digital photos on Flickr.com (member name: "tejana" ... look me up! My photo page also includes an email link). School after graduation I enrolled in the University of Texas at Austin with the intention to get an architecture degree. That lasted 2 semesters ( I hate math)... My second choice was law always with an eye to politics. In my junior year, I was a member of the UT student government on the State Lobby Committee, which put me in regular contact with politicians... Politicians with law degrees. Soon after, I was looking for a new degree plan. I quit school for a year and a half and when I returned I had decided to go to film school. I've never looked back. Workplace I love my work. I'm a digital video and film editor with 30 years experience. I left college for my first professional film and spent the next 6 years working on productions that filmed in Texas. es and while I have worked occasionally on feature films here, my work has been primarily in documentary filmmaking and syndicated television. I have been back to Texas twice to work on productions that were filming there. The first was, I believe, in 1991 ... I spent a month in Dallas and then 3 months in New Orleans on the feature film "JFK" directed by Oliver Stone. In 1995, I spent 10 months in Austin cutting the 2nd one hour segment in a 4 part PBS documentary series called "Chicano The Mexican-American Civil Rights Movement". My episode was about Cesar Chavez and the formation of the United Farm Workers union (UFW) and the California grape strikes of the late 1960's. I have experience in almost every kind of legitimate media production: dramatic and documentary film, music videos, as well as, corporate training and informational programming. I'm currently editing a feature length documentary about the independent "B" movie/ drive-in films and filmmakers of the 60's, 70's and 80's called grindhouse films. The production is called "Masters of the Grind". I maintain a work sample website: tejanaworks.com where I've posted short clips from programs I've edited. It also includes an email link and I would love to hear from my long lost classmates and friends.
