Joanna's Story
Life
My life changed a lot after high school for the good and the bad. The worst part was losing my Dad in 1993. Then in 2001 I became ill with severe juevinille Rheaumatoid Arthritis. When I am outside or generally in public period I use an electric wheelchair. My nickname is Speedy because I pretty much push that thing full power. On the upside I bought a two flat building with one of my younger sister and we have owned it for 11 years this coming July. I also now have six nieces and and five nephews. Christmas is real expensive NOW!
College
Well college for me was full of ups and downs. Thank goodness mostly its been a lot of ups. Going to college helped me get my home and a lot of great jobs while still in college. It was one of the best investments in ...Expand for more
my self I ever made. I highly recommend anyone who can go to college to go, even if u have no idea what u want to do with your life.
Workplace
From March 2005 until June 2008 I worked for Kaplan University full-time as a Senior Admissions Advisor. Then a once in a lifetime opportunity happened. I was offered a full-time position at Harold Washington Social Security Administration Headquarters in Chicago, Illinois as a Claims Authorizer. This was something no one with any common sense would pass up. The people are nice and the building is totally wheelchair accessible and its less than a block from my old job, so I can still see people I worked with for over three years. By working with SSA I have the opportunity to go places I never thought possible.
