Joanne's Story

Life It only took me 46 years, but I finally decided what I wanted to do in 1997. That was teach. I taught Theology at Notre Dame Academy High School, an all girls school, in Staten Island, New York, since 1997. Of course this had nothing to do with the degree that I went back to college for when I was 39...Art History! But I do love what I do! I have been married to Phil Cimino (Class of 1967) since August 1972, and we have two children, Mark (1980) and Michael (1984). Both boys have graduated, moved out, work for financial institutions, married and own their own homes. Mark is the proud daddy of a son and daughter, whom we love completely. Michael is now the father of twin boys...baby sitting has escalated as my daughter in law is now works as a nurse. My husband is now retired from the banking business and works at home doing financial counseling and taxes, although he is growing tired of working on taxes, and would much prefer to just babysit. I am now "retired" and baby-sit for my daughter-in-law who is a teacher. Mark has left the financial business and is now part of an e-commer...Expand for more
ce firm. We still do our family vacations -- to Lake George. We love the Adirondacks and spent 16 years going to Schroon Lake when the kids were young. At the moment, our travel involves casinos in Atlantic City, although I did sneak in a female cousins trip to Bermuda in 2017, which was heavenly. I completed a masters degree in religious education through Felician University's online program, and I am very proud of this accomplishment in that it was the hardest academic achievement I have ever attempted, considering I was in my 50s. It helped me immensely in teaching my students and has certainly broadened me as a person, especially in the knowledge department. While I am no longer teaching high school, I am now part of Felician's faculty teaching an online 4-week workshop for them on teaching theology. After 18 years of teaching I am happy to be home, which has been allowing me to catch up with family and friends, see quite a few Broadway shows, and of course, spend time with my grandchildren. All I can say, is thank God there are two of us, because they can keep you very, very busy!
