Joanne's Story
I left Seattle in 1971, moving to Denver for 5 years then on to Cheyenne, Wyoming. I worked as a Certified Public Accountant in Cheyenne until 2005. At that time I applied to Peace Corps which had been a life long ambition. I was assigned to assist an NGO (non-profit organization) in the village of Takaungu, Kenya. ovember 2008 but I have decided to stay in Takaungu and am now working with an NGO which raises money in the US to sponsor needy children to attend secondary school. I mentor the students as well as teach computer classes in the village. I am trying to learn the most effective ways of increasing the standard of living for the poor rural families in my area.
