JoAnne's Story

After graduation, I went to work at the Town of Huntington attorney's office and stayed for 10 years -- best on the job training I've ever had. I then moved to St. Petersburg, FL in 1988 and have been here ever since. I've loved seeing this town grow from a sleepy little burg to a mini-metropolis while keeping its small-town roots. After buying my home, I finally started college in 1992, taking 4 years to get a 2 year degree (probably because I worked 50 hours a week and volunteered at the local little league) in paralegal studies, earning my CLA in 1999. I worked in law for 35 years after graduating and was afforded an opportunity to do something else, so I worked in the funding department for a title company for 18 months. This job ended November 30, 2015, because the owner sold the company. I had the most fun working with the best group of politically incorrect minions ever! I will be working until I retire at Joule Yacht Transport (a trucking company owned by my sister and brother-in-law). I've also been working part-time for the Tampa Bay Rays and the Tampa Bay Rowdies as a Fan Host, and volunteering working the concession and beer stands for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the USF Bulls and other assorted events at Raymond James Stadium. Since I had so much fun in marching band in high school, I joined an adult community band in 1997 - The Awesome Original Second Time Arounders (anywhere from 300 - 500+ members, ranging ...Expand for more
in age from 18 to 85). We march at different parades all over the world - the Rose festival in Oregon;Fiesta San Antonio; St Patrick's Day in Dublin, Ireland; Conch Republic Festival in Key West; St. Patrick's Day in Savannah, GA; Disney World; Gasparilla in Tampa, FL; Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade 2008 and 2019; The Calgary Stampede in Canada, The Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington DC, and the Seattle Seafair. Our next stop will be Dublin, Ireland in March, 2022 for St. Patty’s Day once again (it’ll be my first time). Who knows where the next stop will take us after that? Since I have so much fun playing music and apparently had a little bit of free time left, I joined three more groups - The Gulf Coast Flute Choir in Bradenton, FL, the Clearwater Community Band in 2007 and the Dunedin Concert Band; now I only play with the marching band the Clearwater Band, since my family is expanding I need to give them equal time. I enjoy everything my adopted city has to offer, especially boating and kayaking, outdoor festivals, and lots of biking and walking trails. I do get back to LI about once a year, as I still have family there, as well as getting out to Utah to go skiing and visiting family out there (since they work at one of the ski areas, I get a good price on the lift tickets). After the Seattle parade, I was fortunate enough to take a cruise to Alaska with some of my family and friends - I highly recommend it. Fun times!
