Joanne's Story

Life I am a mom of 3 adult children and 6 grandchildren. I am a massage therapist, I live on Galveston Island, Texas. My 2 dogs and I live close enough to the water to look out the window and see the bay. I love to travel, dance and just enjoy life. Thats all there is to me. Plain and simple but content. I run on the beach, go fishing, or just sit near the water and enjoy the sounds and sights of the surf. My dad is my hero. He was uneducated, hard worker and made a mediocre business turn into a very successful business. He is a smart man. I have lived all over the western US. From Oregon to North Dakota to Texas and places in between. I always moved back to Grants, and just couldn't stay there. I was always in search of something, finally figured out, it isn't the place that I was looking for, but the peace of mind. I find it where ever I allow myself to be at peace. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Martha Tamayo, because she was my favorite cousin that I haven't seen since I was 14. I miss her.. I love my animals. I have had a shephard for 12 years and a border collie, they live with me, travel with me, and when they are scared, they sleep with me. My dogs are there all the time, I can count on them. My biggest surprise? I was married to my best friend, and out of the blue, he divorced me. My big surprise. My kids are awesome. I found that through home schooling them, they learned to be independent, hard workers and can be given something to do, and they do it. They are truely awesome. If I could pick a teacher to see again, I would have trouble picking between two of them. First would be my 5th grade teacher, Sister Brenda, she was so cool. She made me feel...Expand for more
like I could learn, the other nuns made me feel stupid. The other was Mr Harold Porter. He was the one that told me that I wasn't dumb, I was dyslexic. Amazing, I was an honor student and couldn't understand what I was reading. He helped me . If I won $100 million, I'd give half of it to Christian missionaries, then spend the rest on my children, grandchildren, bills and retirement. To be truly happy, I would be volunteering to help rebuild a devestated area, helping those that have nothing left with other volunteers. What happened to my first crush? He is still in Grants. My best friend would tell you I'm crazy, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as quiet. I still wear blue jeans, tee shirts, and dress it up with pretty blouses. Sometimes I even wear dresses. If I had a do-over, what would I do differently? I would have not listened to everyone and would have gotten an education. I would have believed in myself and made something of myself when I was young enough to. My oldest friend was Nina Michael. We went to school together since kindergarden. We don't see each other for years and when we do, we can pick up right where we left off years before. We both rode horses, and went through alot of the same trials as eachothers. If I attended a high school reunion, the most thing that would surprise everyone is that I am an accomplished business woman and dang good massage therapist. My first job was at dishwasher, where I got paid some small amount of money to wash dishes. What I remember most about it is having to come from the back to wait on Gus Rainey cause everyone else was afraid of him. My childhood memory that I'll never forget was when I got my first horse.
