Jocelyn's Story
Life
You knew me in high school as Joy Stanwell. I'm alive and well and we have lived in KANSAS since 1995! My husband, Tom, is a professor at the College of Pharmacy at the University of Missouri at Kansas City; my daughter, Gillian, is all grown up, is a student at the University of Kansas studying Pre-Med. I'm employed part time as a free-lance paralegal (well, it's supposed to be part-time, but since Gillian went off to the University, it seems I'm working all the time). My professional life is spent helping a workmen's comp attorney in the Argentine neighborhood in Kansas City, Kansas assist many poor Spanish-speaking people with their injury claims; and I also work part-time for a plaintiff's personal injury attorney. I LOVE that Latin music! We even might do some Fox Trot and East Coast Swing... In 1972 I never thought that someday I'd be living the "suburban lifestyle", driving around in a Jeep, talking on a cell phone, with kids and a Golden Retriever in the back! Does anyone know anything about the thirty-five year reunion? Susie Kelly and I would love to plan it, so I'd love to hear from all of you!
Workplace
I am fortunate to be employed in a situation where I can work part time at home and still help others. I've been working as a paralegal for a plaintiff's personal injury attorney since 1996 and spend a lot of time in my Jeep, visiting with clients, finding experts, collecting medical bills, etc. My greatest reward is the self respect I've gleaned from making a difference in other's lives who have been traumatized...it's life changing!
