Jodee's Story

Update April 2008 Time for another update! We moved to San Diego in August 2007 from WA state due to a promotion for my husband, Jim. He was an area manager for Jack in the Box in WA and was offered a job in their corporate office here in San Diego last March (2007). He accepted and moved down here April 2007 while I stayed behind in WA to get the house ready to sell and let the girls finish up school. We joined him in August and it was so nice to all be back together again :). The wildfires hit here in October and we were forced to evacuate at 4:30am. Jim was out of town so it was just me and the girls, but we did a great job! It was truly one of the most frightening things I have been through and would really not like to go through it again. Our area of Westwood in Rancho Bernardo was one of the hardest hit areas with a total of 350 homes destroyed. We lost 29 homes on our street alone, but fortunately our house was not one of them. Everyone was amazed at the pure randomness of the fires due to the high winds blowing embers. Two houses in a row would be destroyed and then one would be standing, untouched. Rebuilding has begun now and it is so nice to see houses going back up and taking up those empty spaces. Kaycee and Kayla turned 13 on March 6th, and I had a harder time with them turning 13 than with me turning 40! I must admit I had a short private cry while they were at school on their birthday, but then I sucked it up and helped them enjoy their special day. They have both adjusted well to their new home and new school and have already made quite a few friends. Kaycee is playing the clarinet again this year and Kayla is playing the flute again. I received my CA teaching credential in February after filling out all the paperwork, passing the CBEST test, and paying some fees. So I now hold current teaching credentials in both WA and CA, which is kind of cool. I have been subbing in the Poway Unified school district since February and am enjoying being in the classroom and getting to know the curriculum. Due to prop...Expand for more
osed budget cuts here in CA, some teachers have already received pink slips and the prospect of teaching jobs available for the next year is not looking too good right now. We will hear the final budget cut number in May and then I'll just have to see what happens. I'll either have a teaching job in the fall or I'll be subbing again, but at least I'll be in the classroom one way or the other :). Jim and I will be celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary in August, which makes us sound very old! He is still the love of my life and I can't imagine spending my life with anyone else. He is my rock and the only person who will put up with me :). May God continue to bless you and watch over you! Take care! Life UPDATE July 2004 Well, believe it or not, I graduated on May 14th, 2004, from WSU Tri-Cities with a Master's in Teaching! No lie! Those two years went by so fast, and I had a blast student teaching my last semester in a 3rd grade classroom. I am now busy putting in applications and will sub full-time in the fall if I don't find anything. My husband took me on an eight-day vacation (no children!) to New York and Boston last month as a graduation present, and we had an awesome time! My first trip anywhere on the East Coast, and I loved it! Let's see, my girls are doing great, still tall, beautiful, and smart, and will be in the 4th grade this fall (yikes!). Oh, and I will be attending the National Science Teacher's Association's Seattle Convention in November with another classmate from college to present our action research projects we did while student teaching. We both did research on integrating trade books into science class, with me doing elementary science and her doing middle school science. I'm a little freaked out about having to speak in front of many people, but for now I am just taking it one day at a time! Oh, and I have a new puppy, a Boston Terrier, whose name is Benny and he is a hoot! Well, God Bless and take care and hope to see you next year at the 20-year reunion (geez, has it been that long already?) Bye!
