Jodi's Story
Life
After high school, I got a full time job at Wild West Stores. I met my husband, Randy, in 1977. I moved out with my best friend Linda Roepke to Orange County in 1978. We had lots of fun going to night clubs and burning the candle at both ends. I moved back to Torrance in 1980. I married Randy in 1983. We have 3 beautiful daughters, Amie (1984), Kacie (1986), Tawnie (1989). We bought our first home in Norwalk in 1987 then moved to La Mirada, where we currently live, in 1994.
Being a wife and mother is completely fulfilling to me. I have had the privilege of being involved with my family's activities and in our community. La Mirada reminds me a lot of Torrance. I miss the old days when we could play outside without the worries that are ever-present nowadays. I tell my daughters all the time that their high school years are going to be some of their life's best memories. Who we were and what we've become are often polar opposites to what we imagined, but it's still fun to stroll down memory lane and remember old friends and dreams. In truth, the fantasy comes no where close to the reality. I love the way my life turned out. I am very blessed.
School
Ah, what can I say about high school...good times, great times & of course, bad times. In ...Expand for more
high school so many "firsts" are experienced. I'll admit, I was kind of a late-bloomer, I had more crushes than boyfriends. (I made up for it after high school!!)
Some of my memorable crushes were Ronny Percy, Mark Rhodes, Kevin Powell, Larry Jones and Wayne White, all unrequited loves. There were also the occassional hook-ups, but I won't name names (You know who you are!). My favorite teachers were Mr. D and Coach Parks. Mr. Fenn hated me, but I deserved it. Mr. Scully gave me a hard time, that I also deserved. My best times were spent with friends, on campus and off (when we ditched school and cruised the beach to smoke cigarettes.) I have fond memories of the hanging out at McDonald's (shooting schlitz malt liquors before football games), Burger King (the huge pie fight) and Jack in the Box (going through the drive-thru without a car). I remember hanging out at Dennis Greenwell's and our little "clique". One funny memory was playing strip poker and even though Denise Padilla wasn't playing, she somehow lost most of her clothing and Brad Long did lose and he had to run down the street naked and he tripped over a tree stump, it was hilarious! My only high school regret is knowing now it all ends too soon and I wish I could have taken more chances.
