Joe's Story
I only went to CHS for one semester then moved to California. That's why I list two high schools. Most of the people I know as classmates were from Park Elementary or Cambridge Jr. High. I currently live in Concord, North Carolina. I visit relatives in Ohio during Christmas so I go through Cambridge enroute to Canton once a year. The city actually looks pretty good. It has many little shops and reminds me of one of the "hippy" communities I would see while growing up in California.
I was reading some of the postings by some of our classmates and it was surprising to hear about all the classmates that have died or are about to die! So, we are very lucky to just be walking around. As for me, here's a brief history of what I've done: Education: Bachelors Degree, Masters Degree and PhD in communications. A PhD is a research degree so that meant I did research in social sciences. I was a professor at California State University at Sacramento, Kent State University and Youngstown State University. Employment: besides the teaching, I was on radio and TV for 15 years. I worked at KVIQ-TV (my first job)in Eureka, Calif, KOLO-TV in Reno, Nevada, KTXL-TV in Sacramento, Calif., WKYC-TV in Cleveland, OH and my last TV job was WCNC-TV in Charlotte, NC. anchorman and reporter in the early phases of my career and a TV metorologist when on TV in Cleveland and Charlotte. I knew weather because I was also a flight instructor and commercial pilot in southern California while in my early 20s, so I knew weather from training my students.
Now, I'm a day trader in Concord, NC. I've been trading for the past 13 years and that's the career I really love. No bosses. Just me and the market. I have lots of time to do my favorite hobby, which is martial arts and training other martial artists. I've been a black belt in Nippon Kenpo Karate for 40 years, but for the last 10 years I've been doing Wing Chun Kung Fu. Wing Chun is an art that you can do when you are really old because it uses science and not strength. In fact, I was in a karate tournament on May 2, 2009 at the Charlotte Convention Center. Its amusing when I compete because they don't know my age. The senior division in the karate tournaments is 35 years and up with the average senior competitor at 40 years of age. Those young guys think they'll old :-) Thus, I end up fighting competitors who are 20 years or more younger than me. If they only knew they were fighting a senior citizen :-) That's it. Drop me a line if you would like to catch up.
