Joe's Story
Wound up in Jackson Hole after college in Laramie. Moved in 1972 to the Bitterroot Valley in Western Montana. Went traveling from '85 to '99, then returned and have been here since.
My two children, Ian, a software engineer, and Yaneis, a school art teacher, live in Denver and often hang out together, neither married and no grandkids. Ian's mom, who I met in College (U of Wyo) lives in Longmont and sees them regularly. We divorced when Ian was 7. Ian was born in 1970 in Jackson, Yaneis in Taos in 1991.
My second wife died of a brain tumor in 2004 after a very difficult few years of unsuccessful treatments and medical bankruptcy. I have not remarried.
My working career has been construction related, general construction, architectural design, very high level finish carpentry, winding up with project management.
After the '08 recession ended that, I spent several years as head of maintenance for a high-end guest ranch, then helped a friend in well and pump service for 3 years, then 3 years seasonally with a friend doing lawn sprinkler installation & service. om the East coast to California when I was 18, and did a few somewhat shorter trips on my thumb later. Taught skiing & ice skating in Squaw (now Olympic) Valley, California, the site of the 1960 Winter Olympics; did a fair amount of mountain climbing and lots of caving; hiked and camped extensively all over the West; was a raft guide for many years in the western US, and a year in Costa Rica, with innumerable private rafting trips as well over the years; was a yacht delivery skipper down the west coast to Mexico, and spent several winters there. Have built and sailed iceboats; crewed and piloted hot air balloons in Taos, Albuquerque and the Bitterroot; flown paragliders in Hawaii, back East, and in the West; and have been on backcountry and swiftwater Search and Rescue teams since college. After the year in Costa Rica I spent a year on Maui, and several in New England building wooden boats. Completely rebuilt, then was captain of a 100 passenger excursion boat on Lake Winnipesaukee N.H. for a couple years.
Spent five years as Technical Director of a performance theater in Taos. with both locally produced, and national and international touring music, dance, and drama productions.
I currently amuse myself adventure motorcycling both solo and with my son, and doing miscellaneous carpentry, welding, and machining projects at home.
