I went to Harrison elementary school in Lakewood from 1943-1949. we lived on Madison ave between the Royal theater and Winchester ave. above a bar. Schermer's was across the street from us. I finished 5th grade at Harrison.
We moved to W. 57th and Lorain ave where my parents bought and operated a hamburger joint. i attended Waverly elementary school on W.58th st until around April, 1950. We then moved to Parma.
I finished 6th grade at Pearl Road elementary school and then went to Ridge Road junior high for 7th and 8th grades. i completed 9th grade at Parma Schaaf high school; then we moved again. We moved on Baltc Road near West Blvd not far from Perkins Beach and Edgewater Park. i attended West Tech high and graduated from there in 1956.
I worked for Fisher Foods throughout high school and after graduation I went to work at GE. on 39th and Chester.
I joined the navy in august, 1957 and when i got out in 1961 i attended San Francisco City College then moved to Los Angeles in 1962 and continued my education. i graduated with a B.A. in 1966 and began my teaching career with the Los Angeles school district. s degree and administrative credential as well as special education credentials. i taught elementary school and eventually became an advisor and school administrator. After 33 years, i retired as a principal at a school for special education students with the Los Angeles schools.
My wife, Barbara and I have been married for 36 years.
My interests have included sailing, track and field and art. I was a Masters participant until my body couldn't keep up with my desire to throw. I raced sailboats for many years and did some cruising. i have sailed to Hawaii and back, to and from Mexico. i have cruised most of the islands off the coast of California. Sailing has been an integral of my life since 1972. i was a certified advanced scuba diver and did a lot of diving in my younger days.
i have traveled to most of the states, Canada and Mexico. I've been to Europe many times over the years. i also had a once in a lifetime experience to sail on a Russian ice breaker to Antarctica and the islands that Ernest Shackleton and his expedition visited early in the twentieth century.
Since retirement i have pursued my love of art and paint in oils and pastels. i love portraiture and figurative art.
