Joe Martin:  

After graduating from high school I attended North Texas State University for a semester. I transferred to Lamar University in 1969 and attended for three years. In April of 1971 I married Gina Hamilton, my high school sweetheart. I dropped out of college and worked in real estate and insurance for several years. In 1974 I joined the Houston Police Department. I was a Houston cop for twenty years. Before retiring from the Houston police Department I finished my BS Degree in English and History and, while working on my Masters in ED CUIN, I obtained teaching certificates in English, History, Social Studies, and Speech Communications. I retired in 1995 and went to work for Alief School District as the Sergeant for their police department. In 2000 I left Alief and began working for the United Nations in Kosovo, training the Kosovar Police Officers. Unfortunately, Gina and I divorced while I was overseas. We were married for thirty years and have two great kids. I returned from Kosova in August of 2004 and taught 12th grade British Lit at Elsik HS in Houston.
