Joe's Story
I'm a journalist and writer focused on the House and Senate (I specifically write summaries of House and Senate hearings). If you'll recall, during senior year I married Alison Kitchen; we're still together, and live in Silver Spring, Md. one block from Washington, D.C. Alison works as a teacher at a Bethesda, Md. school.
In addition to writing about Congress, I write short horror fiction. The latest stories of mine to make it into print were "Away With the Mare" published in the November 2018 issue of Horror Bites Magazine, "Away With the Mare" is about nightmares, and is inspired (in part) by dream research being conducted at Buffalo Hospice.
In addition, during 2019 my short story "Celestial Discharge" will be in the anthology Behind Eyes of Glass (a collection of haunted doll stories) published by Fantasia Divinity Publishing.
Previous stories of mine have been published in anthologies by HellBound Books. The name of the stories and the anthologies they have been published in are: "Old Horney" in the anthology Depraved Desires, and "Mistress Perdition" in The Big Book of Bootleg Horror. Vol I, and "Inhuman Exposure" published in the Big Book of Bootleg Horror Vol IV. "Inhuman Exposure" takes pl...Expand for more
ace along the Erie Canal.
I've also written a book about haunted houses in Northern Virginia (called "Haunted Alexandria and Northern Virginia. I write under the byline J.J. Smith, goggle my book under that name).
Previous short stories and the anthologies they have been published in are:
-"Gregory's Tree" in Dark Magic, Witches, Hackers & Robots
-"The Bearwalker" in Tales from the Witch's Cauldron
-"Corporate Social Responsibility" and "Damnation House." both in Halloween Shrieks
I'm a 1985 grad of Buffalo State, (yes, I went by McKinley for four years); and in my senior year, I wrote a story that was on the front page of the school newspaper, The Record, that got a U.B. professor arrested and sent to jail. In my journalism career, I've been a reporter for United Press International at the wire service's Washington bureau, and yes I worked directly with Helen Thomas. I've interviewed scores of members of the House and the Senate, members of the president's cabinet, and I've even attended embassy receptions (the French ambassadors residence is a palace). Well, that's what I've been up to, how about you.
