Joe's Story

Been married for47 yeas this year. My wife, Mary, is a dear woman whom I love more every day that passes. She still puts up with me and my hobbies....Amateur Radio, Model Airplanes and a old sports car, i.e., a 1973 MGB Red Convertable. Two daughters and four grandchildren. Traveled around a bit the last fifteen years I was working for the Govt. Had a great one-of-a-kind job, involving movment of high value assets by armored Transport, both domestically and internationally. Did a lot of interesting air movements. My aircraft of choice was the C5-Alpha. Retired in 1995 from that life after thirty-two (32) years and taught for Five Years for Office of the State's Attorney, Enjoyed working. Never had a day I did not learn something. Worked closely with USAF and somebody discovered I knew a little bit about radio communications so I ended up doing some things involving electronics. Some people along the way, you loved less than others, but when taken as a whole, not bad!!!!. Now working on the proverbial "Bucket List" Just started out by completing a lifetime wish to fly in a open cockpit bipane. The old bird was a 1928 New Standard Biplane operating out of Old Rhinebeck Airdrome in Kingston-Rhinebeck, NY. My wife asked me How long it would take me to get into the cockpit, flying helmet and goggles and all....Took me about six seconds. What a thrill, listening to the throaty growl of the Big Wright Whirlwind 1200 Horsepower Radial Engine and more so....the Wind singing in the wires on final approach into Rhinebeck. Ya had to be there!!!!. Mary and I are now planning a day trip, possibly an overnight to Mohegan Island, about ten miles off the coast of Maine. Both of us suffer from the standard old people ailments, me, Diabetes II and Mary, a bunch of stuff. That...Expand for more
's about it for now....Regards to all. Joe and Mary -- Sept of 2016.. How the years pass!! Married 54 years in October. Mary and I are still moving around well for oldies in their Sevenies. Still playing around with Amateur Radio, rebuilding old equipment and keeping in touch with old friends across the States. Spent our 50th in 2012 with our brother-in-law and his wife, touring the Canadian Maritimes, i.e., Prince Edward Island for a week, then New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Campabello Island. Great times. Bought a used Aliner Trailer in May, this year and we are in the process of rigging it the way we want it. Planning some short trips now and again. Figured I would fight the Arth. bug by picking a bit of Git-Fiddle before bedtime in the evenings. Still experimenting with RC and ubber-power airplanes. The grandchildren are growing into fine young men and young ladies. All are college bound at this point in time. We are thinking about relocating at some point in time. Still in Rockville, but we have been looking at Frederick and smaller towns in western Md. Not ruling out Vermont or New Hampshire but the cold WX is a concern as also medical facilities. I do note with sadness, the thinning of our ranks. Been doing a bit of study on the Napolionic Age of Sail and do enjoy it. Working at a local hobby shop for the past few years (Part Time)....Have no interest in starting a new career path. I am the Airplane Guru and resident expert on WWI and WWII Warbirds. Spent some time restoring the radio gear, i.e. ARC 5 Command Sets and other rigs in old Airplanes. Well folks, not much changed. Mom and Dad passed on back in the Ninties. Now we do "Fun" stuff and move slowly these days....But the Ground hog is not my new mailman!! Best to all....for now!!
