Joe's Story

Hello from Albuquerque, NM. I'm back where I was born. I moved back here in 1981 with Lenny Seward. He and I came out in November of 1980 to visit my parents and we were hooked. My picture is the view from my back deck. After high school I worked at Graham Electronic selling HIFI systems and a little bit of PA gear. The store was sold and I was out of a job. Next I went to HFC and entered their manger training program. I talked Lenny into taking a job there so I could score a whopping $50 bonus. He's been in banking ever since. And they say you can't influence your friends. Once in Albuquerque I worked at a few HIFI stores where I was fired for knowing more than the owner. So I started my own business. I owned a small PA system and mixed bands in the night clubs for a while then joined forces with another PA guy and stated doing concerts. We did most of the local concerts in Albuquerque and continued to grow, adding more and more equipment. Ya, I'm gear head, love spinning those sound knobs. I split up with my partner and started my own company doing concert sound. After a few years of work in town I had some offers to travel with some bands. I did a lot of short tours with bands like; The Ripingtons, Spyro Gyra, Reba McIntire, Dwight Yoakum, Jack Mac and the Heart Attack, Bobby Weir as Bobby and the Midnights, Huey Lewis and the News, Night Ranger, etc.. Yep, I had no life. I got burnt out of the concert life and started a computer store in a small town south of Albuquerque with my brother in 1988. It grew and grew and I worked less and less. I met who I thought was a nice lady and married her. That lasted a whopping 8 months and we divorced. She had a cousin in LA that did divorces for the stars. Ya, she got two houses, two cars, the boat and the business. Oh ya, and she stuck me with $150k of unpaid medical bills from an auto accident that should have been paid from the $300k she received in settlement. I got the old truck we used at the lake to pull the boat with, the shirt on my back, and a huge hole to climb out of. The first order of business, work on my choice of women and lawyers. So, back to sound I go. I worked for the local PA company in Albuquerque doing concerts again, built up some money and broke out on my own in 1994. Working concerts is tough, lots of big ego running around without a clue. I've got hundreds of stories about bands and not that many are good. As I matured in this business I discovered that if you eliminate the band the equipment is truly what I enjoy about it. So why not just build sound systems? So, another new company was born. The new company is TSC we sell and install sound, lighting, and video systems, the big stuff, no residential. We do a lot of churches, performing arts theaters, and schools. Business is good but again I had no life. So, what do you do when you're in your 40s and would like to find a mate? Online I go. I tried that for 2 year...Expand for more
s. Met some nice ladies but nothing clicked so I quit that. Then just as my subscription was running out I got one last message. A lady in my part of town showed some interest in me. I was tired of this type of dating but I couldn't be rude so we met. Our first date was dinner at Applebee's. We met at 7:00 and they kicked us out at 12:00. She moved in a month later, now there's that click I was looking for. We were like two lost soul mates that finally found each other. We married in 2007. Vesna has three daughters and three grandchildren, wow, I'm suddenly a dad and, ouch, a grandfather. Are we that old? It's 2009 and the girls are 19, 24, and 28. I guess at 49 it was time to settle down and have a life. The girls are all on their own so Vesna and I live alone. I bought my current house in 2005, a decent house in an upscale golf community, and lots of potential for real-estate appreciation. We are slowly improving the house and we have added about 800sf of outdoor living. We love to entertain (anybody remember the parties we would have at my house in high school?) and we have Mike & Marge Foley, Jim Smith, and of course Lenny Seward and his wife Sandy (Brooks) over for cook-outs, it's our own little class reunion. Albuquerque is over 5000ft high with a 10,000ft mountain on the eastern edge. The winters are calm and produce very little snow. It's funny; a half-inch snow will shut this city down. The summers are hot hitting the mid 90s during the day but cools off to the 70s in the evening and night. Also, in the late summer we get the monsoon winds and moisture from Baja California giving us these nice evening rains and spectacular sunsets. Once, when I was in Maui, shopping in Lahaina, we noticed a huge crowd gathering at the water's edge at sundown. When I asked what was going on several people looked at me with surprise and said they were watching the sun set. I took a look at the setting sun, nothing all that great and started to walk away. One man asked, "And where do you live?" When I stated Albuquerque I heard several ooooos. So I guess we are known for our sunsets, at least in Maui. One of the best parts of living in Albuquerque is the big sky. During the day the sky is a deep cobalt blue. You can see for miles. I built a deck on top of our house which is up high on the eastern edge of town surrounded by open space. You can see the rain clouds move in and out and watch the sunset turn the Sandia Mountains to a deep red. Sandia means watermelon in one of the native languages and the mountains sure look like it at sunset. At night the city lights come up and put on quite a show. Yep, Albuquerque is a great place to live but I miss all my old friends from high school. Those days were way too much fun. Still, to this day, I cannot top the fun we had in high school. So, drop me a line and let's re-live the past with some great stories and catch up on all the new stuff too. Joe
