Joe's Story

Life After Eastwood I started at EP Community College doing basic courses. When time came to go to on UTEP wouldnt transfer about 15 credits but New Mexico State would take them all. So it was off to Las Cruces for school. There I started a business distributing health care products nationwide for Kimberly Clark. I supplied mostly to California and Texas. Then, when there was a product shortage, Kimberly Clark held back product from retail stores and supplied the three direct suppliers, me being one. When Wal-Mart found out, they had us shut down. Yes, I was forced out of business by "live better" Wal-Mart. I sold my customer base to the distributor in St. Louis so he could try to survive. I then moved to San Diego to start over. It was the recession of 1991 so jobs were scarce. I went to work as a warehouse manager for a large air conditioning equipment/parts wholesaler. I eventually became the Purchasing Manager for the company, living in a house on a canyon, going to the beach about every weekend. Life was pretty good. I even helped a good old friend, Bobby Brown, get a job with the company but he had to return to El Paso due to a custody battle. Every thing worked out okay for him. On buying trip to Washington DC I decided to drive to my birth state of North Carolina. Looking for a change and caught up in all the green, I decided to move to North Ca...Expand for more
rolina in 1997. Life there was okay but I didnt have a southern accent and they called me California boy. I just did not fit in. In 1999 the area was hit by Hurricane Floyd and I lost everything in the flood. I decided that this was not the place for me, bought a new truck and headed to Tucson. I lived in Tucson from 2000 to 2005 working in sales for a chemical supplier and then again with the company I had worked for in San Diego selling A/C equipment. I again helped out my old friend Bobby to get a job with a garage door company in Tucson and he still lives there, doing great. As I always loved going to Lake Mead boating, I decided to move closer to the Colorado River and found some land between Bullhead City and Kingman AZ. I am currently working again in the wholesale A/C industry as I can't seem to get away from it now. I am building my own home as an owner builder, doing most of the work myself as this is something I have always wanted to do. Needless to say, it will have an awesome air conditioning system. In my free time when I am not working on the house, I enjoy boating on the lakes and ATV riding in the Black Mountains just behind my land. I am in the foothills looking east across the valley. I hope to have the house done by February 2008 so I can invite family and friends for visits and trips to the lakes this summer. My life in a nutshell, so far.
