Joel's Story

Hi all, The 50th was fun and is now a long ago memory. (well that is what this commentary said a number of years ago) I am not a paid member and thus cannot reply to any message, but my thoughts are there. Thank you for thinking about me and be well. I have been living in a country club in Indio, CA, Sun City Shadow Hills location for twelve years and enjoying the Palm Springs area. I was living at the beach in Marina Del Rey from 1964 through 1998 then at the beach in Redondo Beach through 2011. A big change for me from beach to desert but so much to offer a retired person. The Casinos bring in many shows and overall the area provides many amenities. I know and participate with people of reputation in many events and many activities. A good basically retired life. Successfully in many professions over the years. An accountant by background. I have licenses in Banking, Law enforcement, Commercial Real Estate, Insurance, Stocks & Bonds, Software Development, Real Estate Development etc. Founded a Temple in Torrance just before leaving Redondo Beach in 2011 and was on their board. I occasionally do some real estate deals. Additionally I just helped start a new synagogue in Rancho Mirage, CA, 2016. All fun challenges. Previously, I had donated time to two major L.A. public charities simultaneously for 12 years, (Jewish Family Services and National Council Jewish Woman), and been on both their Boards of Directors in Los Angeles. I have been fortunate to have traveled over 88 countries (Many more than once) while enjoying the architecture and various cultures. I have white water rafted, done horseback riding, skydiving, ballooning, trekking, glacier climbing, zip-lining etc, etc. In fact one of my best trips was white water rafting 176 miles 61 rapids down the Grand Canyon and sleeping on sands bars over a 7 day period which I did in 2002. I must admit that some I would have to think twice about doing today. Frankly, I feel I have been so lucky to have had my chance to do so much. In the last 8 years I managed to do a 32 day cruise to South America (7 countries, including white water rafting and zip-lining), Eur...Expand for more
ope 3 weeks (5 countries), China (3 weeks), 3 week West & East Coast Florida visit and a week trip (train, rafting, zip-lining) through Copper Canyon (8,000ft altitude, longest line 1322 meters), Mexico, the Oscars (Red Carpet at Academy Awards) in February 2016 and February 2017. August, 2016 to Cancun, Mexico for over a week of oceanfront and some snorkeling and Chichen Itza for the Mayan Temple complex. What a great trip, May 2017 through June 25th, I went on a five plus week trip starting in Rome and then on a 28 day cruise from Italy ending in Montreal, Canada. This will include Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Gibraltar, then a trans Atlantic crossing to Saint-Pierre, then Newfoundland, Ireland, and after to Quebec, Canada. Staying in Montreal for a week. I was looking forward to this one as there were some new cities for me.. Turned a little cold in Europe. October 2017. Just got back from Cancun for eight days, including Tulum, Mayan ruins, and Xplor water park including 14 zip lines 805 meters and less, natural underground caverns, rafting and jeep adventure. Very humid though. Trying to keep young, ha-ha.. Just two weeks ago got back from a great ten day trip, for a third time, to Alaska. Weather was a bit rainy, but had fun anyway. Off to Alaska inside passage again, 2018. I'll admit that I considered the Academy Awards again this year, but maybe 2021, it certainly was exciting to be there previously. twice. 10-13-20 I just uploaded four photos which includes my girlfriend of eight years who passed at the end of last year. She received an Oscar this past February 2020 at the Academy Awards, in memory. A very special person, very missed. I am uploading some additional pictures from the Oscars. Edie (A voting member of the Academy), had been a Vice President of Twenty Century Fox and a Vice President of M.G.M., and had her own movie distribution company, including Miramax and others. My best. Have a great summer to everyone.. Warm out here in the desert, but peaceful and many fun things to do. Perhaps we can see an end to this pandemic and gain so familiar form of life back. Stay safe. Fondly, Joel
