Joel's Story

Life Been in Colorado ten years now, hiking every weekend, love life in the mountains and very happy with the way life is going these days. Working as an evil bureaucrat for Denver government, playing cello for the Lone Tree Symphony Orchestra. I do miss my friends from home, but have a great circle of friends here. I still write from time to time, do some painting as well. Living quietly with two kitty-cats (Captain Kirk {half Mine Coon, half wildcat}, and Hermann Panzerkitti), practicing my fingers off and staying active. I moved to Colorado for the mountains, and go hiking every weekend. I've climbed some of the big bruisers, having summited ten 14,000+ ft peaks since moving to Colorado from Houston in 1999. I've even climbed the second-highest peak in the continental US. I love the dry climate, the view of mountains every day, and the wide open freedom of The High Country. Nothing can compare to the feeling of standing on the summit of a 14,610ft peak after a seven-mile approach... I do miss home, but haven't been back to Beaumont or SW Louisiana in about ten years, certainly miss the food and some of the people as well. I had run for Mayor in Beaumont in 1991, had a saltwater aquarium business, worked in the medical field as a surgical tech and a cardiac nurse assistant, had a s...Expand for more
altwater aquarium business, did six years as a paralegal in Houston, and now work with rezoning issues before City Council. I remain deeply interested in politics (VERY Conservative politically but not into the "control freak" aspect of some conservative groups, and YES, I HATE Obama. I am very much an adherent of American Exceptionalism but too bloody vocal about it (surprisingly). I hope everyone from is doing well, are living happy lives, and have found fulfillment in their personal goals. Things change over the years, as do people; I am far less abrasive and offensive as I had been in early years, treat people with far more respect, keep my opinions to myself more, and find life to be easier and more enjoyable as a result. I have no great wisdom to impart, other than just appreciate who you are, and if you are unhappy with who you are, then you have the power and abilities to change that. If you are unhappy in your surroundings, change them, if you are unhappy in your work, change it. Life is far too short ot be unhappy and miserable; suffering does not build character, it assails it. I can be found at Joel.Pousson at denvergov.org, as I only occasionally sign up for Gold Service here; I welcome contact from all. Best of luck and happiness to all the folks from my personal history.
