Joel's Story

These screwballs wanting money from me just to catch up with friends bugs me. You can reach me at gijavajoel at yahoo dot com, since I will be shutting down this shortly. I should point out that I'm fibbing a bit by saying that I'm a "Class of '87 grad", considering I never graduated. That hasn't hampered my civilian education, though. Not a route I'd advise my children to take, but it's worked for me. Quick catch up: Left Highschool at the end of 10th grade. I didn't like peer pressure and wasn't exactly hanging out in the best of circles. I joined the Army and did several years as a medic. I wanted to be Infantry but apparently you have to have a high school diploma for that, but a "Good Enough Degree" is sufficient to be a medic. Hmmm. After a few years in the medical field, I hopped the fence to Military Intelligence. Stop with the jokes now, I've heard them all. Hell, I've even made a few up myself. Cruised through the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California and became a Russian linguist. A few years later, I picked up Serbian and Croatian. I've done some time as an interrogator, but mostly as a signals voice interceptor. I got in at a good time and enjoyed watching former Russian republics attain their independence from ring-side seats. I've made it throughout most of Europe, save France, and a fair amount of Eastern Europe. I've been stationed in Colorado Springs, Germany, Monterey, Mas...Expand for more
sachusetts, Hawaii and a few places in Texas. I missed Panama, but have caught everything else since I enlisted. Apparently I have bad timing when it comes to moving between new units. I get there right when things get entertaining. I'm on the verge of retirement with just over 21 years in and have a few job opportunities looking at me with 3 letter acronymed agencies. It's either that, or chair lift operator in Angel Fire, New Mexico, since that's about all the more responsibility I want nowadays. I'm married, and have been for 15 years now. I have a very wonderful and extremely tolerant wife. She's from our cross-town rival, TVHS, but I don't hold that against her. We have 3 great daughters, 2 long-haired Alaskan Malamutes and 21 fish (all of which have names, apparently. Something you come to terms with when you're the father of young ladies.) That would be about it. I'll try and dig up a couple photos and post them. By the way, I only do this a few months out of every few years, so if I don't write back, don't take it personally. I would like to hear from Betty Jordan, Wendy Thompson, Trisha Spencer, David Evans, Todd Zubia, John Cahill (from elementary school) and Dan Nicklaus. Since this portion of the bio normally gets hidden for website content, just do a little sleuthing to figure it out. You can reach me at gijavajoelatyahoo or jwvaughnatyahoo. Have fun with life. It's too short to be miserable.
