Joey's Story
Life
It's been 19 years since returning to San Diego now (2019) from Portland, Oregon. Judy and I are fixing her father's house after caring for him 14 yrs. Guess we're here for the long term now. Over time we've fixed the 1950's home better than ever. It should be good for the better part of the next 15 yrs after that I wont care.
Judy's booking trips for us like she wants my last check to bounce. So if your in San Diego drop me a lign, I've spent a total of 4 years in the air traveling. . .save me. . . call..
Our oldest son Matt is a Lineman in San Diego working on his Masters in economics. He has 3 daughters, twins 13 yrs and an 8 yr old (we have so much fun). Our youngest Martin is finishing his teaching credentials and Masters. One son married, one still free.
Who ever reads this, take care. Keep in touch and life is about karma. It was really nice seeing some of you at our 2010 reunion.

School
I am very proud of the students and faculty during the time we were in Oceana. The school had "class". We didn't have the best sports teams but there was a good , I think proud, following.
The class I will never forget is Typing! I was the worst but it was fun! My fingers would get caught between the keys during the timed testssssss. I think half of the class would snicker about it. TED Young knew it would be more of a value in my future than I possibly knew at that time. Now, among other things, I was a technical writer and all the girls that laughed at my 16 words a minute in high school, I got the last laugh, I still type 16 words a minute but get paid big bucks! Ha-Ha (in my dreams)!
I still remember every teacher, as probably most of you do. I know they did a good job building my character considering what they had to work with. Would we be the same, if we did it today?
Military
The service gave me the best trade education (aviation electronics) and some very good friends I will never forget. May we remember them all.
The things I remember most were:
1. Swimming off the Hanger Deck...Expand for more
on an aircraft carrier in the South China Sea.near Vietnam
2. Flight operations, day and night with landings in heavy seas. This gave me a new admiration for pilots.
3. The san pan that placed us (the carrier) on red alert, and the over powering way it was made to go away. Brave souls on that sand pan against a destroyer escort.
4. Taking in the survivors of the U.S.S. Evens ( a destroyer escort) after the HMS Melbourne (Australian aircraft carrier) cut her in two, on an eerie calm sea's night.
5. Standing at parade rest around the flight deck in dress uniform, while watching a Lieutenant standing on the bow of a motorized row boat catching up with the ship as we pulled out of Hong Kong. How did he get on board?
6. Seeing Pearl Harbor on fire during the filming of Tora-tora-tora.
7. Boxing- Jr.Ward, (yes I was a boxer too) a good match. To bad there was a crew to spoil our fun. You were faster I was stronger. You were better. Thanks for the competition.
8. Olongapo- What more can one say besides colorful (and smelly). Do any of you remember a business in between the bars? Four attempts were made to pick my pocket within one block. That was some place.
Heros
The reasons my wife and I came back to San Diego was to take care of family. My nephew was in a terrible accident in the desert riding a motor cycle when he was twelve, which left him brain injured blind and no feeling in his hands. He's 39 years old now (2019) and everyday he sees life as a positive challenge. He once told me that he thought I was the most patient person he knows. Seeing all the challenges of his day to day life, I had to reply, "No, you're the most patient person I know." He comes to the house a couple time a week, we joke around and have dinner. He eats from a bowl with his fork because it makes finding his food easier with his random stabbing and scooping. The best kid you could imagine with challenges greater than any one person should ever have . . . and we laugh together all the time.still.
I'm so lucky, truly lucky.
