Joey's Story
Joey Popp is a freelance journalist based in Western North Carolina. He's proud to be a native North Carolinian growing up in several locations including Winston-Salem. He attend South Fork Elementary, Southwest Junior High and two whole weeks at West Forsyth before moving to Atlanta. Joey is a graduate of Mooresville High School and Catawba College in Salisbury. His career started at Atlanta's WXIA-TV and within two years he was hired as editor and field producer for the popular "PM Magazine" show on WBTV in Charlotte. spokesman, Joey was interviewed by dozens of newspaper, radio, and television crews from around the world. He also worked with many journalists and celebrities. His next move took him to Charlotte and Asheville where he reported TV news for the next decade. Later he hosted a medical television show and radio news on Charlotte's local NPR station. Currently Joey is a freelance producer for NBC News Channel. He's very active in the community with various volunteer projects including Big Brothers Big Sisters of Western North Carolina. He serves on the Board of Directors and in 2020 was named North Carolina's Big Brother of the Year.
