Johanna's Story
Life
I am now divorced (yea for me). I do have to thank my ex for 2 great boys. They are 14 and 10. I moved back home in July and work in a hospital ER and have been trying to work on an ambulance again. I am also enrolled full time in school.
This really has been a hard year for me with everything that has gone on but I suppose it can only get better from here. Divorce really does stink and so does rolling your vehicle on the way to work. I did that in mid-December. I was able to walk away with bruises and some whiplash so I was very lucky.
School
The biggest crush I had in High School was a guy who was a year older than me. Anyone who knew me then probably knows who it was. I was too shy to talk to him then. I am not that shy anymore, too bad I was then.
The best teacher I ever had and the one who inspired me the most while I was in school was my 5th and 6th grade teacher at Burroughs, Mr. Oliver. I had the opportunity to tell him that about a year and a half ago and I was so excited to see him again. Thank You Mr. Oliver for all you did for me!!
Military
Hmm, went to the recruiter at age 17 under the delusion of the movie Top Gun. I was gonna be the first female naval aviator. I had no idea about the whole college and officer thing. I was a naive kid then, let me tell you! Enlisted the summer between my junior and senior years. I left for boot camp in Orlando, Florida less than a month after graduation. Orlando in July and August is nothing short of MISERABLE! At least I did know someone there, Joanna B, even if we didn't get to see each other very much. She was lucky to be put into a coed company, I was stuck in an all fema...Expand for more
le company. I think it was comforting to know that Joanna was at the same base even if we couldn't talk.
I got to go to San Diego, California for Basic Hospital Corps School. I met three great people who I have lost touch with over the years, Lola B, John W and Tim W. If you guys see this I miss you LOTS! Did alot of drinking and partying oh and laying out on the beach to get a tan. I was quite the little partier then. Hmm, that may explain my total distaste for alcohol now. Dumb kid, I did it too soon.
Went to Camp Pendleton, California for Field Medical Service School. Got to hang out with really hot marines let me tell you!! Did more partying and drinking.
Then I went to Bethesda, Maryland. I met my ex-husband there. He lived in the room directly above mine and the rest is history so they say. We were married for 14 years and have 2 boys. I started off on a ward that was nothing short of living he**. One of my biggest tormentors got hers in the end when she had a breakdown and spent time on 7W at NNMC. I know it is immature to gloat, but you have no idea how horrible she made my very first duty station.
After I left the hospital, I went to the Naval School of Health Sciences in Bethesda. I worked in the Admin Office for a year and a half and then got discharged from the Navy.
Real exciting huh? If I had it to do again, I would have stayed on the west coast instead of going to Bethesda. Some advice for Corps School Students, do not go to Bethesda unless you are one SQUARED AWAY RECRUIT! I wasn't so I had a really rough time. Take it from someone who made that mistake, if you are in San Diego, stay on the west coast!!
