Johanna's Story
Life
Having been diagnosed with an extremely rare & terminal liver disease I am currently dealing with the indescribably vicious pain, along with the multitudes of debilitating & relentless symptoms while waiting/hoping-beyond-hope to receive a life-saving transplant before it's to late. I was originally given 3 years to live, but due to the many, many, many surgeries/operations and other "procedures" that I've undergone, combined with the fact that the 35 different medications I take everyday took and are helping to slow the progression of the disease (thankfully) my dozens of doctors have given me 5-10 years and with luck 15-20. However, this all depends on my actually receiving a transplant and apparently this is not a possibility until over 90% of my liver functions have failed. As ...Expand for more
of right now I've lost "only" 75% my liver functions and, unbelievably, having a liver that only works 25% as well as it should does not "completely qualify" me for the only thing that can save my life - a liver transplant.
Despite all this I like to think that I'm holding up as best, and hopefully even better, as anyone in my situation possibly could be. No matter what I will continue to love, laugh, and live with the same sense of wonder & appreciation I always have. But I must admit, as cheesy as it may sound, I do absolutely make an even greater effort to savor the sheer joy and utter delight I get when I find myself in one of my favorite places, when I come across something thatÂs meaningful & beautiful to me, and most importantly, when IÂm surround by the people I love and adore.
