John's Story

After graduation from Carver, I went to Livingstone College majoring in Chemistry. When I graduated my wife Ruth Jackson Abercrombie and I moved to Washington State and Remained there for 40 years. We still live there, but are in Spartanburg during the winter. I am now in Washington State and Ruth will join me later this summer. We have two children, the oldest is a daughter who lives in Mauldin with her husband and one son. She teaches in Spartaburg. The youngest is a son who lives in Phoenix, AZ and has 3 sons and one ...Expand for more
daughter. In Washington State, I worked as a chemist and manager in a nuclear laboratory. My wife worked as a Probation and Parole officer and Supervisor. I moved from Chemistry into Personnel and Labor Relations. During this time, I took classes in Law Enforcement and started working in the Sheriff's office. I am still commissioned as a deputy sheriff and will be working in the Marine Patrol during the summer. Working on the Columbia River. Other than a bit of skydiving and motorcycle riding I ain't doing much exciting.

Part of the ceremony of the changing of the guards. The guard on the inside is the one being relieved. The one on the left is the oncoming guard and the one on the right is the sargent.
