John's Story
Lessee... I went to University of Houston and bounced off of Mechanical Engineering for four years before I finally graduated in Dec 1974 with a degree in Manufacturing Technology -- which I've never used. Then there were three years with Uncle Sam, mostly at Fort Riley, Kansas. That's where I met the Michigan farm girl I've been living with for the past few years. All right, all right, the girl I married in 1976. She was an Army nurse then and is still an OB/GYN NP today.
We had the fun of living in Heidelberg Germany for three years, and we made the most of it by traveling around on weekends and leave. I think we hit the Netherlands, Italy (that was a bust), Switzerland, Belgium, Denmark, Norway, England, Scotland, and Ireland. I went back to school when we came back to the States, getting a MS in Environmental Planning at Baylor. I guess I'm more of a Bear than a Cougar any more, and that's where our son is getting his degree in Music Education. He's a flautist, and a darned good one too.
THAT degree, I've managed to use. We've lived in Austin for over 27 years now, where I work for a very small land planning consulting firm, where I do their ordinance and regulation analysis, development forecasting, and general number crunching for planning purposes and applications.
Hobby-wise, we've been active in the Society for Creative Anachronism (though that's tapered off through the years), Boy Scouts (all three of us are Order of the Arrow members), and... Well, that's about it. Darn. It didn't take very many words to cover 40 something years, did it?
