John's Story
Hi everyone,
My high school years began at Oakton High School in Oakton Virgina (1971 - 1973) and before I ended up graduating with a scholarship, I had attended 2 other high schools in two parts fo the world because of my penchant for moving around.
After I left Oakton HS in 1973, I moved to Thailand for 15 months. I lived in Bangkok with my parents and brothers in a huge house out in the "Thai" suburbs. Bangkok, Thailand, has to have been one of the most singularly interesting places that I have ever lived. I met all kinds of people there - enlisted military, American Buddhists, and my own set of Thai friends. I even met someone that I had known at Oakton - "it's a small world" especially if your family is in the military.
I moved back to the states and went to live with my relatives up north in Buffalo, New York, where I attended school at Lafayette High School. Those were memorable times too because you have to live in Buffa...Expand for more
lo to appreciate it for the city it is. Some of my best friends are from Buffalo.
Given that it is 2009 and that I graduated in 1975 leaves another gap that is hard for me to fill in a profile. I graduated from college with a degree in Business and Data Processing and worked as a consultant for the US Government in various capacities for a number of years. I left the Washington DC area after that to move down south to North Carolina to chase after the skills that I need to acquire. I had a stint living in Jacksonville, Florida but ultimately I liked North Carolina from what I have seen of the East Coast.
Today, I am settling down - being a consultant turns you into a high-tech migrant works of sorts, so I have been on the move for a good number of years without a real chance to "own" a place - I intend to live in Youngsville NC and make do here. Chasing windmills began in sixth grade for me, and I have finally put that sport away.
