John's Story
Life
One week before graduation, I got busted for lighting firecrackers in the stairwell & was "excused" from the graduation ceremony. I've always regretted that one. After H.S. I attended U.D. for 2 yrs & majored in "Computer Science". In '82 I moved west to Wyoming along with several other alum. There were easily 50-75 DBQ'ers there at the time. It was like still being in DBQ without our parents and we acted like it! It seems that each week during '82 a new DBQ'er showed up and in DBQ fashion had a party for him/her. We did more than just party, but as you might imagine, we did party a lot. (There wasn't much else to do in WY!). I got a job as a computer operator & learned programming. Within a few yrs most of us moved out of WY. In '84 I moved to Fort Collins, Colorado, "The Choice City". I've been here ever since. From the "Mighty Mississippi" to the "Purple Mountains Majesty", 2 of God's greatest creations. There are actually quite a few DBQ'ers here in CO!! I'm still in the Information Technology sector and have been an operator, progra...Expand for more
mmer, consultant & instructor. My career has taken me all over the country. I am still mischeivious at times, but as I "mature" (get older) I find myself becoming more conservative. Mostly because of the kids. I want to set a good example. My wife & kids are Colorado natives. it still cracks me up when i think that my girls will gradutate from "Rocky Mountain High (School) in Colorado". Now the song will be stuck in your head for the rest of the day. Because they're natives, it's important to me that they know about DBQ & my roots. Each time we come back, I am taken back by how beautiful DBQ really is. I guess it's true that you sometimes don't appreciate what you had until you don't have it anymore (or least until you are away from it for a while). I miss "lightning bugs" the most. In H.S. I believed life would never be better. Obviouly I was wrong. The Lord has blessed me more than I will ever deserve (in spite of myself).
Hope to see all y'all in '09?
