John's Story

Life I'll begin by stating I'm very happy to be hear writing my bio vs someone else writing post.. After my time in the Army, 1 year 10 months and 3 days, I attended ELAC on the GI bill for 4 years, yes it's a two year school. I didn't even get a degree, other than social activites, if you know what I mean. I went off to UCLA where after 1 1/2 years I was asked to leave. I guess they thought I was more of a problem than a student. Chicano Power! I took over the management of our family janitorial business until 1977. I felt after 20 years in the business I needed to do something else. I sold the business and went into real estate sales. My wife Susan and I owned a real estate and mortgage company that we closed Sept. of 2007, one week prior to my 60 Birthday, along with several real estate investments. It's time for me to try and retire again. I can't seem to sit still. In all this time I've been married four times and have enjoyed it all. There have been lots of great times and some learning experiences, but overall I would not change a thing. I have three sons and, my wife Susan of twenty years, have three great daughter-in-laws and seven grand children. This family is my love and what I live for these days. Somethings have not changed with me, I'm still considered crazy and wild at times. I drive to fast and love to have fun on a constant basses. I don't drink much these days but when I do it's a fun time! susan thinks I'll burn out some day, little does she know. My favorite personal enjoyment is to ride my 03 Harley Road King Classic when ever I can. I'm lucky to have a wife who enjoys riding all most as much as I do...Expand for more
. We travel a great deal. Our favorite spots are Hawaii and South Lake Tahoe where we have vacation homes. I also workout 3 to 4 times a week at the Covina Ballys gym where I've been a member now for 22 years. I'm a 1st.LT. in the Civil Air Patrol and do a lot of flying in small Cessna aircraft. It's search and rescue type of flying and training which I enjoy a great deal. I've been lucky in real estate, should be after 30 years, so I have a lot of time and freedom to go and come as I please, with Susans ok of course, so I get a lot of riding and flying in. The longest Harley ride so far has been to Sturgis in South Dakota. This summer a couple of friends and I will be riding up the coast to Canada. I'm looking forward to this ride and many more. As for my health I've been very lucky. In December of 2000 I was diagnosed with cancer, lymphoma, and after three years I came out a winner. Then in 2005 I crashed on my Harley, slid over a cliff and stopped myself by grabbing the root of a big bush and saved my ass from falling 150 feet to the river below. This was up in South Lake Tahoe area. But all is well and things are good and I'm still riding like a wild man. Susan and I live in Glendora. Our kids live within 40 minutes of us in different directions but it's all good. We have sleep overs with the grand children at least once a month. I enjoy spending lots of time with them. Their ages run from 1 to 14. Alex is 1, Alyssa is 4, Kerry is 7, Madelyne is 10, Cole is 11, Nicolett is 13 and Nicholas is 14. If any of you ride Harleys send me an e-mail. I would love to hear from any of you. Take care. John Barba AKA JB - Rug
