John's Story
Life
Living in Sacramento, I have three great kids and my best friend for my wife. I have been traveling the western states working as an archaeologist. life is great! The years keep on coming and its all bonus. My oldest daughter just got accepted for her doctorate studies in Juneau, Alaska. My middle child has just graduated at San Diego State and now is working on her teaching credentials. My son is somewhat following dad's early days, GED and out, he's apparently a late bloomer. The last 15 years have been exciting and rewarding. I have worked all up and down California from the coast to the Eastern Sierras as well as several desert trips in Nevada doing prehistoric archaeology. ...Expand for more
I can't believe sometimes how fortunate I have been to be able to explore areas and cultures I would have otherwise not known existed. While I am working largely in the past I get to work with present day descendants of Miwok, Maidu, Shoshone and Paiute tribes to name a few. I recently have been hired by the local Miwok tribe as a consultant and monitor of projects in their territories. I have been allowed to participate in repatriation ceremonies, sweat lodges and Big Times. It won't be long, hopefully, and I will be able to extend activities down into Mexico, Central and South America. That's the big picture up to now. I might never retire as things are getting better all the time!
