Scott's Story

After graduating high school, I moved to Hollywood CA. to live my dream and enter the glamourous world of modeling. I knew I had what it took to make it and with some luck and plenty of hard work, by 1984 I had become one of the industy's most successful hand models. I did work on television, appeared in magazines and appeared as a hand "stand in" in a few Hollywood productions. I became the spokes hand model for Tucks Medicated wipes from 1985-87. It seemed that I was "On top of the world" when one horrible night when my entire career came to an end. The whole event is so fuzzy, but from what I remember, it occurred after a night of partying with Hollywood ledgends Debbie Reynolds and Bert Convy. We were at my home, drinking and playing "Win, Lose or Draw" when during a drunken stupor I began shredding a stack of Lavinia Kanig campaign posters. I had shredded only a few posters when my hand slipped in the blades, and in the blink of an eye, the machine grabbed my hand and I quickly lost my center digit. I not only lost my career as a hand model, but was unable to effectively signal motorist as to my displeasure with their driving habits. I atte...Expand for more
mpted to work after the accident, but could only find an occasional job as an extra in the series "After MASH". My life spiraled out of control, my depression caused me to self medicate. I became an over-the-counter drug addict, chugging multiple bottles of Nyquil, and abusing glycerin suppositories every day until I'd pass out. I was helpless, hapless and homeless, spending countless hours as a studio audience member in the taping of many infomercials. I had abandoned all hope and consigned myself to a life of misery, but life changed one day after I was arrested at a local grocery store for shoplifting a box of "Depends". After my arrest is when I found Jesus. No, not the Jesus of the Bible, but Jesus (pronounced Hey-soos) a Latino man selling tamales in a Smith's parking lot. Somehow, I knew my life would change, so with new ambition and focus I now work in a call center doing phone surveys relating to customer satisfaction issues. I now believe I am on the road to recovery...do you strongly agree with the statement, somewhat agree, somewhat disagree, or strongly disagree, or you don't know? Damn, I hate when I take my work home with me.....
