John's Story

Things have changed..... Recently started a new job...hope this will be the last one! Now working for Kaiser in Stockton as the Facility Services Director. So far so good. I have a great boss and some good people around me. Can't ask for too much more. The kids are huge! Growing each day and starting to eat us out of house and home! Our daughter Jordan is recently 11 and very beautiful! She is an A student (gets that from her mother) and a great softball player. We are very proud of her. Jackson, our 7 and 1/2 year old (he insists on the 1/2) just started 2nd grade and is doing well. He is not yet the student his sister is, but is making his own way. He loves math and we are encouraging that! He began his baseball career this year playing on the 7 year old Bel Passi A's. He loved it! It was a lot of fun to see him out there in uniform. You could never wipe the smile off his face the whole season! My gorgeous wife Stephanie and I will soon celebrate 18 years of marriage! I am proud of that. She has become a stay at home mom which the whole family really loves. I hope she never has to return to work. Last week we returned from a vacation/mission trip. We vacationed in New Zealand (awesome place) and did some mission work in Tonga! Tonga is quite different. Let's just say it is not too developed. The people are awesome. Very friendly and willing to help you out in any way they can. We were part of a group that did some construction work at ...Expand for more
a private, church/state run local high school there. While I built book shelves for their library, others layed floor tile, repaired desks and did a lot of painting. It was a hard work, but we enjoyed every bit of it. Each day when we arrived at the school we noticed several students picking up trash or performing some sort of landscaping maintenance. I asked the school's chaplin about it. The very large man named Visa, informed me that students who live in the local villages who walk to school and are late, must perform said tasks as punishment -or- "get the cane". The students have the choice of working or being whacked with a cane or broom handle. Amazingly, some choose the whack! I watched 2 girls getting hit on the palms with a broom handle! It looked painful...they both cried. Despite that aspect...they all still have a wonderful attitude and are great to be around. We introduced them to badmitten and frisbee and they soaked that up like a sponge. We had kids coming to us all week asking to play. By far, my favorite things were playing with the students and seeing my kids start to understand just how good we really have it at home. We would all make the trip again...without hesitation! I will update again when things change. Have a great day and try to do 2 things.... #1 Do something nice for yourself. Too often our lives are so busy we don't stop to enjoy them. #2 Do something nice for someone else. It may help you enjoy #1 even more.
