John's Story
Life
Married to Beth (Hicks) since 84, three children, all girls! I've mostly worked in Construction, usually as a carpenter or General Contractor. Woodworking is my favorite hobby.
My wife and all three daughters are musically inclined. Julie and Amy were both first chair players in band, my youngest, Valerie, played clarinet. I love to be outdoors, around the water (lake, pool, ocean, river, creek) if possible!
My oldest daughter, Julie, and her husband have 2 boys and a daughter due in early 2023. They live near us and I often pick up her boys after school and they hang out at our place until one of their parents picks them up.

I started back to school in July 08. I earned my Associates degree in drafting from Northwestern Tech (Now Georgia Northwestern Technical College)and I went on to graduate from SPSU (now part of Kennesaw State) as an Industrial Engineer in 2012. I worked as a Manufacturing Engineer for several companies, which brought me to Rome, GA where we live now. I’ve retired early and spend my time helping with grandkids, working in my wood shop, learning to cook, and caring for our land and the well over 1000 trees we’ve planted in the last several years. I am older, grayer, and slower than ever, but very much enjoying my life and my family.
