Deacon John's Story
Grew up in Inwood at 3852 10th Ave. Attended St Jude grammar school. Hung out with Mike Schaeffer and crowd. Graduated from St Jude 1962. Went to St Mary's Seminary in Garrison, Ny but left and went to Cardinal Spellman HS for freshman and sophomore years and returned to St Mary's for junior year and St Nicholas of Tolentine in the Bronx for senior year, graduating in June 1966. Went right into the Air Force with Russ Green and spent time at Lackland AFB, Texas, Lowry AFB, Colo, Westover AFB, MA, Andersen AFB, Guam, Tan Son Nhut AB, Vietnam, Wurtsmith AFB, MI (where son, Michael was born on Aug 27, 1970 and who died Aug 29, 2011). Also stationed at Langley AFB, VA, New York Metro area as a recruiter, Univ of Texas, Grand Forks AFB, ND as a missile officer and earned MBA, Vandenberg AFB, CA where I retired in Oct 1986. he Vandenberg area in Lompoc, CA where I have worked as a vice president of Vandenberg FCU, as President of RaySan FCU, Santa Barbara, as loan officer at Mid-State Bank, as Catholic CHaplain at the United States Penitentiary, Lompoc from which I retired in Dec 2005. Live in our other home in Boise, Idaho for a time and worked at Home Depot. Returned to Lompoc and transferred to Home Depot, Lompoc. Left Home Depot when I turned 70. Married to Mary (Cunningham) who graduated from St Michaels Academy, NY and lived in Inwood and Creskill, NJ, two children, Michael, Santa Barabara County Fire Dept Captain who died on Aug 29,2011; Cara, who is married to Mike Sims, CHP, and who works as a medical assistant to an Oncologist in Lompoc. Seven grandchildren and two great granddaughters and now one great grandson.
