John's Story

Much has happened since I left high school for me. After graduation I headed for Miami Beach, Florida. Then it was off to the west coast for my first airplane flight to Seattle, Washington. I then returned to the east coast in early 1973 moving to Long Branch, New Jersey. I spent 20 years in the U.S. Army from 1973 till 1994. I Took my Basic Training and Advance Individual Training for the Infantry, in Fort Polk, Louisiana. I first joined the Army Reserves. Upon completion of the training I figured I could do it full time and so I switched over to full time in the regular Army. I was given an opportunity to retrain so I went to Fort Leonardwood, Missouri for Advance Individual Training as a Combat Engineer. I got married to a woman from Acton, Massachusetts in 1974. I was stationed at Fort Devens afterwards. From there I went to Daecheon, Korea and was awarded another job as a Nike Hercules Crewman. Then it was back to the USA and I was stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky. I wanted to continue my training so I reenlisted for the Transportation field and was off to Fort Eustis, Virginia to train as a stevedore. Upon completion of the training I was off to Fort Campbell, Kentucky. There I loaded planes and learned quite a bit about the Air Force planes. I still wanted more training and so it was time to reenlist and I picked the Chemical Corp and so I was off to school again at Fort McCellan, Alabama for the chemical school. Upon completion of the schooling I was r...Expand for more
eassigned at Fort Lewis, Washingon. From there I went to Butzbach, Germany. I wroked there in a Military Police Company and really had a good time in Gemany doing all the traveling I could afford. I got a divorce while in Germany and brought my daughter over to spend the rest of my tour with me. I then went to Fort Riley, Kansas and was doing real good there and got an opportunity to fill in as a First Sergeant in a Combat Engineer Company. I got married while I was there to a woman from Berlin, Gerany. From there I went back to Frankfurt, Germany and was stationed with a Signal Company. I was promoted shortly after this tour to Germany to the rank of Master Sergeant and so really did quite well in the Military. I was not so lucky being married though as shortly after I arrived in Framnkurt I was once again going through a divorce. I remarried again shortly before retiring from the Army and will be 20 years married theis coming February, so I guess the third time is a charm. I have been in Tacoma, Washington since retiring fromthe Army. I have had many different jobs after getting out, however Ihave been working at a paper mill for about the last 11 1/2 years. I plan on retiring in 2 years and we just bought a 2012 Georgetown motor home. We want to spend at least 2 years traveling in it when I retire and see where it goes from there. I was at the last reunion and I will be at the 40th for sure. Hope to see many of you there and until then take care and God Bless.
