John's Story

Life On my 50th birthday, my wife (as of 7/3/93) and best friend Mary Pat, threw me a surprise party. 2 of my 3 daughters (no grandchildren yet)from 3 marriages were there. I worked at Padonia Fitness in MD 1995-2009, 5a.m.-noon mon-fri, longest ever at a job, second longest was boxing, which I did for 9 years, the last 3 of which I don't remember, I got ko'd so many times, though managed to finish with a 51-11-2 record. lived in Baltimore 6/80-7/2009,loved it until Mary Pat passed & the Cosmos started up my wander lust again so now I'm in FL, bought a little prefab, writing, applying for jobs for which I am told I'm too old, too overqualified. someday I'd like a small place in MA as a second home. Have to have income for that though, but I have faith. I have written 4 movie scripts, 40 songs, a dozen short stories, still no big break yet, but the dues, you just got to pay your dues...peace brothers and sisters... I always wanted to be a gym teacher when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a good idea. As it turns out, they were probably right. I speed walk, can't run anymore. I write. I dream...wildest thing I did in school...you don't want to know... If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have less anxiety, not a lot of noise, and day time hours to be able to deal with the day-to-day. hero? I had a meatball hero last week. oh, not that kind? Lived in Cambridge, Somerville, E.Boston, Baltimore MD, and now Homosassa FL The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Mary Pat Osborne. love cats, and will get a kitten one of these days. I left my Dorsey,The Cat w/daughter Jade in Baltimore before driving to FL. I hardly ever watch boxing anymore. I love the Red Sox, Orioles, and now Tampa Bay Rays. not into Reality TV, but like W/O a Trace, Ghost Whisperer, Diane Sawyer... that I am in this physical place, this heavenly place alone and loving it. If I could improve my home, I'd remodel the living room and add on a garden. My dream home would be the one I am in. . I left wife 1 and daughter Laurie Ann when depression overwhelmed me after boxing career tanked. but God gave me a chance at redemption and I did well, if I can say so. I was single custodial parent to my daughter Jade from her 4th year. w/o a doubt, the most difficult/rewarding experience of my life. what I learned is to listen, to set li...Expand for more
mits and assure yourself of alone time. Ellen Coady, my 8th grade teacher, her 1st yr on the job. she took me and friends to Red Sox games, tutored me for Matignon entrance exam that I passed but couldn't afford the tuition. she told me years later, when MP and I visited her that she sensed a diamond in the rough. boy was I grateful. the abuse I and my sister were subjected to at home filled me w/rage that Ellen and then, in h.s. Joe Santoro helped me quell. If I won $100 million, I'd give 10-20% of it to homeless and children's foundations, then spend the rest on bros & sisters, daughters and take a Hawaiin vacation. MP would be lying next to me. My current age is 61. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be invalid. I was so completely whacko. to be a stay at home writer in Homosassa. to make a living writing songs in collaboration w/Jamey in Nashville. To be a produced screenwriter. when younger I wanted to be famous. now I just want to make people think, have enough money to live on anonymously. that was Jackie. we spoke briefly several months ago. our interests are different. My best friend would tell you I'm shy, if I had a best friend, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as weird. now it's shorts and t-shirt. in h.s. it was skin tight pants if I recall. lasted 2 hours at Burger King I share my home with photos & music, which I find calming. no trophies, but my office walls are covered w/boxing photos. would not have abandoned first wife and daughter. In 10 years, I hope to be produced screenwriter, published book author, have my songs recorded by major artists. I'm going to get there by continuing to write from the heart and believe. there's no one I am close to that I knew from back when though there are several I facebook speak to that I'm only 4 pounds over my fighting weight of 41 years ago (already???) My first job was at Central Sq. dept store, where I got paid 35cents/hour to stock shelves. What I remember most about it is my boss was an ass who likes to yell at his teen employees. my father coming home drunk and when 17-18 yr olds on the corner harassed him, he got me out of bed to fight them. made me a lot of enemies back then. I'd like to be remembered as having been a good father which was, ironically, not too long after the fact I was an absentee father.
