John's Story

Life CPA practicing in FL. Note: All this time my profile was being censored by Classmates.com & I didn't realize it until now; so here it is finally. Would love to hear from anyone from the past. Married to Esther for 12 yrs now; wonderful woman from Waltham that I met while doing relief work in Miami after Hurricane Andrew. No kids; just five parrots. Music is still a great part of my life; no bands the past few yrs but I do a lot of writing & sequencing. Between that & the 5 birds, it gets quite noisy here at the house. Have been living in the Ft Lauderdale area since '95; paradise except for the occasional hurricane. School NRHS, Class of 80. But you already knew that. Would have loved to make the 25th reunion, but was unavoidably detained at home. Was happy to have been able to make the 20th. Would love to hear from anyone who actually did make it to the 25th. Also got an AS degree in Aviation Maintenance Technology awhile back, and an AA in Business (prereq. to the undergrad prgm). Still look back fondly on those HS days though, at least what little I can remember from that era. A lot has changed since then, of course. College Florida Atlantic University: Masters of Taxation, 2002. FAU: Bachelors degrees in Accounting & Finance (dbl major), 2000. Not shabby, considering I barely passed high school (but let's not get into all that now...). Workplace Career change from aviation to accounting. Used to turn wrenches on jets & engines to counting beans. At least now I have clean fingernails & ge...Expand for more
t to sit in the A/C all day and play on computers. Actually, it's not all play; after being on the computer all day long, the last thing I want to do with my spare time is log onto the computer at home. Military MSGT, USAFR (retired). Approximately 10 years active duty USAF, then nearly 12 years Air Force Reserves. Retired in April 2002 with about 21 1/2 years of total service. Active duty from 10/80 thru 3/90. Two yrs in the UK; 1+ yr in TX on the border of Mexico (I stayed out of trouble...that's my story & I'm sticking to it); 2 yrs in CA in the high desert; 2 yrs in Korea; 1 1/2 yrs in Homestead, FL. Reserves: Did my remaining time at Homestead. Was a paradise until Hurricane Andrew hit in '92; took a few yrs but once again a paradise. Put in my retirement paperwork in Aug 2001 but had to stick around a few months longer than originally planned after 9/11. Spent most of my time working on fighter aircraft. Crewed F-111s in the UK for 2 yrs; T-37 trainers in TX for 1+ yr (nice break from fighters); F-4s for 4+ yrs; F-16s for a bunch of yrs. Also worked a few other types from time to time. USAF has been good to me over the yrs; wouldn't trade the experience for anything in the world. But I yam glad it's over & life is good. My main goal in life is to live long enough to collect at least ONE pension check (have to wait until I turn 60). I figure my chances are good since my biggest goal in life before this was to live long enough to see the Red Sox win the World Series at least ONCE before I die.
