John's Story
Well work has slipped away in the night starting in November 2013. Retirement is great. Spent two weeks in Morocco late 2019. Carnival in Venice. Each year I travel to Europe to assist with English immersion programs for local executives in their countries.
Departed Missouri in 1970 after graduating from the University of Missouri in St. Louis.
Went straight into the United States Marine Corps as a 2nd Lieutenant.
After 11 years, married a woman from Australia and had one daughter. Left the Marine Corps in 1982 as a Captain and went to work in Dallas, Texas with Texas Instrument as a computer programmer.
Work for Texas Instruments, Moore Business Systems, Electronic Data Systems (EDS) until 1985.
Moved to Baltimore, MD in 1985 and worked as a computer programmer consultant until 1988. Graduated from the University of Baltimore with my Masters Degree in Information Systems (MIS).
Moved to Northern Virginia and continued working as a computer programmer consultant until 1991. During the last year, I set up my own independent business. The recession on 1991 stopped that.
Went to work for the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) for the federal government as a GS-12. Worked there for about 7 months and then was promoted to GS-...Expand for more
13 and transferred to the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Worked there for about 3 years and then promoted to GS-14 with the US Department of State.
Stayed with the US Department of State working as a computer programmer/supervisor until 1995 and then took the opportunity to become a diplomat of the USA. Worked in Moscow, Cambodia, Paris, London, and final posting in Nairobi Kenya.
Have four wonderful children -- Daughter born in 1981, and three sons born in 1983, 1986 and 1988.
Divorced in 2001 but continued working for the US Department of State.
Retired from US Department of State in Jan 2005.
Retired also from the US Military reserves in February 2007 after more than 30 years of active duty and reserve service. Last brance was with the US Army Reserves.
Worked for various companies and now work for Booz|Allen|Hamilton as a consultant with a government client.
Used to race Hobie Kat 16 sailboats.
Am presently an 18th century historical reenactor. I have one personna of the 1751 to 1768 Colony of Maryland Governor Horatio Sharpe and one personna as the older Marquis de Lafayette. Plus, I do 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th, and 21st century dancing with a group in Northern Virginia.
